The Origin Story

Intergalactic Googly Eye Day began when Jason Clarke was undergoing chemo.  It was a long process and he slept through a lot of it.  He was quite tall, so his black-booted feet would stick out of the bottom of the minimalistic hospital blanket.  One day, he awoke to a couple of sets of eyes staring back at him from the other end of the blanket.

Chemo is miserable, but Jason laughed, and kept those eyes on his boots.... he wore them to work, to play paintball... everywhere.  Eventually, the eyes started to fall off, but somehow, mysteriously, the missing eyes reappeared at the next chemo session.  Every two weeks.  For a couple of years...

The googly eyes never failed to make Jason smile, no matter what.   That magical property needed to be celebrated and shared with the world... and so Intergalactic Googly Eye Day (IGED) was born.

Jason and his family began celebrating Googly Eye Day on the 6th of April 2017 -on the occasion of Jason's 46th birthday- and we have continued ever since in his memory, sharing the silly with anyone who could use a smile (so, everyone!)  Why Intergalactic? ...see FAQ 👀
